Back
So I’ve made it back from Singapore… and if you’ve read the comments from Bloh on the post before I left, you would know that I have very satisfactory completed my shopping list….
This trip has been a lot of ‘firsts’ for me….
1. First GEC
2. First trip to Pengeran for eating
3. First MacBook
4. First gift from Brazil courtesy of ST
5. First time flying Tiger Air
6. First time hearing EC sing ‘live’
And this is my first post using my new Mac…. I’ll write more later and add some photos – once my tech support arrives and I get to ask all my silly questions
First GEC 2007
So I finally made it back to the annual GEC after so many years. It was pretty full on from the minute I reached home… Finally got to see mission control and how everything is run. In addition, I got to play mentor as well to one of the teams…. and YSF and I got to choose our own teams coz we were given the responsibility to allocate teams
Incidentally, YSF’s team won and represented Singapore in the GEC.
The first day and the first hour or so, the kids were all pretty quiet and didn’t really interact with one another. By mid morning things were starting to warm up… by the time the challenge was issued at 5pm, they were already exchanging their mobile numbers and emails, planning an all nighter to hang out and play LAN Games or to work on their challenge. It was an interesting experience to see how a diverse group of students from JCs, Int’l Schools, Poly & ITE can come together as a team and their interaction with one another.
By the next morning, they were all out together going shopping and eating and realising that they have several things in common to talk about. By the time GEC came to a closure, I heard things like “Hey dont forget to stay in touch!” – which I thought was pretty cool. Actually, I think GEC could be the now defunct SDU as we’ve seen and heard rumours of previous GEC participants becoming boyfriends and girlfriends.
So here’s a couple of pics from GEC ….
I’m on my way from misery to happiness today…
OK well that’s abit of an exaggeration… I’m not miserable in Perth – except being deprived of certain foods… but I am heading to Singapore… not today but in a couple of days…. oh just think… days of eating and shopping and eating and shopping and MORE eating!!! Get the picture? And SF has taken the entire week off… and ST in Perth will be back as well… so we can pretty much all pig out together
In the midst of the eating, I’ll be busy shopping and celebrating my birthday… and so, I thought I’ll put my b’day wish list and shopping list on here… the shopping list is so I wont forget and the b’day wish list is…. *HINT HINT*
1. Laptop (ok… I cant decide… to switch to a Mac or stick to a PC)
2. Gym Bag including water bottle & headphones
3. Shoes
4. Bags
5. Whatever else that may catch my eye
I have to admit I’m stressing out that I only have 15kgs to travel back with… yeah… taking Tiger Air…
So, if I have the time and I can be bothered, I’ll do a food diary… that is… if I can be bothered
Control Freaks
OK… back to the church again…. seeing a pattern here?? I think volunteering/helping out in the church is as bad as working in an office – when you have some crazy freaks in there. The only problem is that you cant quite gossip abt these people in church with other church people coz technically we’re not suppose to be gossiping about other people… ah.. what the heck.
Anyway, there are these 2 paedentic control freaks in church… they just insist on being in control of everything especially the spelling and grammar of materials that go out from the church – like seriously, they think their grammar and spelling is tops – big frigging deal…. What makes things worse is that everybody entertains their whims and fancies as well and usually sides with them when the little ones like us try to say something about them to the higher authorities…. What made it funny is that one week in the bulletin, they spelt “science” incorrectly… that made my day
