Update 2008

Whilst 2007 ended on quite a high note – being back in Singapore & on holidays in Vietnam, 2008 has so far been a bit of a downer with being sick, MAD getting randomly bashed outside a pub and other miscellaneous problems here and there….

So the Jade Forest is going through a time of deforestation and will be back shortly….

Kickapoo – Joy Juice?

It’s one of those days where I woke up on the wrong side of the bed… Everybody and everything is irritating me…  here’s a list of stuff already happened….

1.  ordered chicken rice to take away, they put it on a plate

2. ordered curry puff as an extra – they gave me fried chicken instead

3. dropped my phone in the car, couldn’t find it, in the process kept knocking my head, and the bridge of my sunnies somehow got warped

4. people at work asking me DUMB questions

5.  wanted to go spa but partner in crime not able to go

So, I bought a can of Kickapoo – Joy Juice in the hope that it would bring me some JOY…  well it hasn’t happened yet :(

Real Life Law & Order

It’s been news in Oz for the last couple of days… this little girl nicknamed Pumpkin was found in a train station in Melbourne – a security camera caught her and a man walking hand in hand in the train station and then the man was seen leaving the train station alone and the girl left in the train station.  Turns out that she was left there by her father and then the father has done a runner to the US.  Also they’re not even Aussies but from NZ!!  So now we have 3 countries searching for this elusive father and now it also maybe that Pumpkin’s mother is also MIA.

Can you imagine this on an episode on Law & Order either Criminal Intent or Special Victims Unit?  HHmmmm they might do a cross over episode… :D

Anyway, I do feel sorry for this little girl.  Imagine the stigma that she has to grow up knowing that she was dumped.  And she’s 3 years old.  She would be aware of what is going on more so than if a baby was dumped.

On the brighter side of things, these people are from China and they all have hanyu pinyin names and it’s absolutely hilarious hearing their names pronounced here by the news readers who can’t quite pronounce hanyu pinyin…  it’s like a tongue twister…

For more news on this little girl, just google ‘pumpkin, lost child’ and you’ll get heaps of news articles :)

A Call fo Prayer

It’s not something I usually do – to put something serious on this blog…. But somehow this situation has struck me and I thought I’ll put this in.

The Taliban is currently holding 22 Korean hostages – Christian workers who were doing medical and relief work in Afghanistan and was abducted by the Taliban. Their leader Pastor Bae Hyung Kyu was executed last week. His body was found on a highway with 10 bullets in him. He leaves behind a wife and a daughter. For more information and current updates on the situation, I found Eugene Cho’s blog extremely useful…..

Let us unite now and pray for the lives of these people that something good will come out of all this.

A Blast from the Past

Wow… it’s amazing what the internet galaxy can do these days…. This morning I received a comment on my email with regards one of my posts below and it was from Mona G… and really the only Mona I know and lost contact when I lived in the UK and she moved to the US …. was from way back when I was bumming around for my first 3 months after the ‘O’ Levels and so I replied to her comment to double check if it was her and lo and behold I got an email back from her confirming that it was her!!! Far out… I found my long lost friend…. I’m absolutely stoked!!! Man… we had some crazy times together! Let’s see…

1. we (together with another friend) sent Valentine Day cards to all the guys in our class – that freaked the guys out

2. when Mona and I went to my cousin’s house one day, she ate a piece of the dry DOG FOOD after I dared her

3. we (and half the class) used to sneak out of classes and went to my house to chill and got into trouble…. My dad backed us up though :)

4. Hanging out at Brannigans in our school uniforms

5. Eating at my grandma’s kitchen

I’m still stoked…. I dont think I’ll be doing much work today :P

What’s in a Name?

The office space waster today did the ultimate today… he called me VICKI when he walked into the office.  Don’t get me wrong I have nothing against that name but that is not my name!!  How sad is it that I’ve been working here for more than a year and he still doesnt know my name?  It just really shows that he hardly comes into the office enough to remember a name…  like I said before… he wastes space in this office… pity my boss refuses to get rid of him.  I have suggested taking his desk and stuff out into the garden or the shed since that’s pretty much where he belongs…

Easter 2007

Happy Easter Everyone….

It was one of my better Easters in recent years… had it pretty full on for the first 3 days of the long weekend and then pure vegetation on Easter Monday….

On Good Friday, we went for an early service (surprise surprise) at Riverview and then to breakfast. The service had a piece of jig saw puzzle on stage and then it was broken…. reminding us that Christ was broken for us… In the afternoon, my brother and I decided to visit the Avon Valley National Park – after getting lost for a bit, we eventually found our way there and I had an experience with a lizard… a BIG one… for those who know me, knows that I absolutely detests reptiles… in any shape or form… so a loud yell was heard throughout the National Park…. After the hard work at the National Park, we realised that we were pretty close to the Farm where the youth from church was having their youth camp so there we went for a feed… and a good feed it was :)

On Saturday, I decided to be ambitious and decided to cook popiah for my friends… I havent done it in a while (last time was probably in Edinburgh!) but I think it went ok… well everyone is still alive… :)

Easter Sunday was the highlight… TC flew in for a short visit from Melbourne and us girls decided to catch up… since I have always been taught that a picture is worth a thousand words, I’m attaching photos and well it can be seen we all had an extremely awesome night!!

Play Time & Pink

Hhhmm… it’s always play time for me but this time round, I’m planning to head back home for a couple of weeks, hopefully my birthday weekend so that WY and I can celebrate our birthdays together for once. We’re also thinking of heading on to BKK or Vietnam for a couple of days of R & R (more like eating and shopping)…. can’t wait…

On another note, I streaked my hair pink again :) Think I might try purple the next time round…

All Jazzed Up

A couple of weeks ago, CY, my bro and myself decided to check out the Perth Jazz Society gigs. So we found ourselves at the Hyde Park Hotel on a Monday night, listening to Elle Deslandes Sextet and totally enjoying ourselves. Last night, we headed there once again to listen to some really cool piano playing by Mat Jodrell & Konrad Paszkudzki presenting the songs of the Ray Brown Trio. I have to say the finale was really cool when the 2 pianists took turns to play on the piano for their encore.

Funnily enough, we’ve mentioned to some of our friends that we went to listen to the jazz and a couple of them have surprised us and ‘admitted’ that they are jazz enthusiasts… however…. we have yet to see…
